💫 'Made in China 2025' is a strategic plan initiated by the Chinese government in 2015, aiming to enhance the country's industrial capacity and technological capabilities. This plan seeks to transform China from a low-cost manufacturing hub into a global leader in high-tech production.
🎯 What are the objectives?
High-Tech Manufacturing: Promoting development in fields such as aerospace, information technology, automotive, medical devices, biotechnology, and new energy.
Innovation: Increasing research and development activities to foster domestic innovation.
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection: Developing greener manufacturing processes and enhancing energy efficiency.
Improvement in Manufacturing Quality: Enhancing production quality to produce products that meet international standards.
Self-Sufficiency: Reducing dependence on foreign sources in strategic sectors to achieve self-sufficiency.
📌 In which sectors?
Aerospace, with the sixth-generation fighter jet already operational, ahead of the USA's 2030 plan.
Information and Communication Technologies, including personal quantum computers, AI, blockchain, chip manufacturing, GPUs, mobile devices, and leadership in almost all these areas.
Robotics and Automation, widely used across industries.
New Energy Vehicles, exemplified by BYD, surpassing Tesla in market share.
Agricultural Machinery.
Marine Engineering Equipment.
Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals.
💪 Has the goal been achieved as of today?
Analyses conducted in 2024 show that over 86% of the more than 260 set targets have been successfully completed. In sectors such as electric vehicles and renewable energy, the targets have been exceeded, and all targets in areas like robotics, agricultural machinery, biopharmaceuticals, and marine engineering have been achieved. However, certain goals, such as advanced photolithography technology, intercontinental passenger aircraft, and broadband internet satellite networks, have yet to be met.
Research by Bloomberg Economics and Bloomberg Intelligence indicates that the "Made in China 2025" initiative has been largely successful. In five of the 13 critical technologies monitored—high-speed trains, graphene, unmanned aerial vehicles, solar panels, and electric vehicles with lithium batteries—China has achieved global leadership, while making rapid progress in seven other technologies. These studies reveal increased global acceptance of Chinese electric vehicles, greater use of Chinese smartphones for internet access, and widespread adoption of Chinese solar panels for residential energy.
